Men's singles number one seed Wei Nan of Hong Kong safely progressed to the quarter-finals of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) 2016 Indonesian Masters at the Gedung Dome  in Balikpapan today.

Nan beat Indonesia's Yulianto Ilham Sri 21-8, 21-12 to move into the last eight, where he is now due to face fifth seed Tanongsak Saensomboo of Thailand after he beat tenth seed B. Sai Praneeth of India 21-14, 21-13.

The men's second seed, Indonesia's Ihsan Maul Mustofa, narrowly avoided an upset as he came from behind to beat unseeded Kwang Hee Heo of South Korea.

Hee Heo took the first set 21-16 before Mustofa stepped up his game to level things up, taking the second 21-4.

Mustofa then secured his place in the next round as he took the third and decisive game 21-13.

In the women's competition Thai top seed Busanan Ongbamrung secured her place in the quarter-finals, comfortably beating China's Yue Han 21-14, 21-8.

Ongbamrung's compatriot and second seed Nitchaon Jindapol also made it through as she overcame Singapore's Hui Zhen G Chua 22-20, 21-16.

Jindapol's quarter-final opponent is due to be sixth seed Ayumi Mine of Japan as she saw off Indonesia's Ruselli Hartawan 21-17, 21-17.

In the men's doubles Malaysia's Kah Ming Chooi and Juan Shen Low continued their run as they also reached the quarter-finals.

The newly-paired duo saw off Indonesia's Yohanes Rendy Sugiarto-Afiat and Yuris Wirawan with a 21-15, 16-21, 21-13 win in the second round.

The pair, who came through the qualifying rounds, are Malaysia's only remaining pair in the competition.

They are now scheduled to take on fourth seeds Hardianto Hardianto and Kenas Adi Haryanto of Indonesia in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

Hardianto and Haryanto had defeated Malaysian duo Khim Wah Lim and Jian Guo Ong 21-13, 21-15 in their second round match.

The second seeds in the women's doubles competition also safely navigated their way through an all-Indonesian match.

Della Dest Haris and Rosyita Ek Putri Sari beat Maretha De Giovani and Tania Okta Kusumah 21-11, 21-8.

Elsewhere, third seeds Rawinda Prajongjai and Jongkolpha Kititharak of Thailand also made it through to the final eight as they beat Indonesian pair Suci Rizky Andini and Yulfira Barkah 21-10, 19-21, 21-17.

In the mixed doubles competition third seeds Kian Meng Tan and Pei Jing Lai of Malaysia secured their quarter-final berth as they beat Nadya Melati and Afiat Yuri Wirawan of Indonesia 18-21, 22-20, 21-16.

They will face another Indonesian duo in Lukhi Apri Nugroho and Ririn Amelia for a place in the last four as the home favourites beat Chinese pair Haodong Zhou and Yuxiang Hu 22-24, 21-16, 21-19.
