The event will take place on September 16 in Poland's capital Warsaw, with the medals featuring two of the city's famous landmarks.

Taking centre stage is the capital's Warsaw Bridge, as well as a depiction of Sigismund's Column.

A taekwondo player is also featured as part of the medal design.

Registration opened for the event last month, with athletes from across the world and not just Europe eligible to compete.

European participants in Kyorugi (K40) will have the opportunity to earn G4 world ranking points, while non-European participants will be awarded G2 world ranking points.  

For the first time, the Championships will feature a Poomsae programme with P20 [intellectually impaired] and P30 [motor impaired] athletes competing.

Organised by the Polish Taekwondo Federation and promoted by the European Taekwondo Union (ETU) and the European Para-Taekwondo Union, the Championships are recognised by the World Taekwondo Federation.

Last month, ETU President Sakis Paragalos led a delegation to Ulyanovsk to discuss the development of Para-taekwondo in Russia and Europe.

He was joined by ETU vice-president Fred Buitenhuis and deputy secretary general Constantin Apostol on the trip to the city located on the Volga River, 893 kilometres east of Moscow.

Ulyanovsk will host the sixth edition of the European Para-Taekwondo Championships.

The sport is building to its Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020.
