Former world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli claimed a long-awaited first senior international title after winning the men's singles crown at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Brazil Grand Prix in Foz do Iguacu.

The 23-year-old Malaysian is ranked 40th in the world but lived up to his number one seeding.

He was forced to fight hard, however, playing for 80 minutes before getting the better of fourth seeded Indian Anand Pawar.

Pawar took the first set 18-21 before Zulkiffli fought back to prevail in the second, 21-11.

He then won a thrilling decider, 21-17.

World number 41 Beatriz Corrales claimed more Spanish success on Brazilian courts following Carolina Marin's triumph at the Rio Olympics.

She beat Finland's Airi Mikkela 21-13, 21-11 in a one-sided women's singles final.

Michael Fuchs and Fabian Holzer won an all-German men's doubles final against Jones Ralfy Jansen and Josche Zurwonne, 21-19, 21-18.

Barbara Bellenberg and Eva Janssens claimed a second German win in the women's doubles.

They beat home pair Bianca De Oliveira Lima and Naira Beatriz Vier, 21-7, 21-10.

India's Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Reddy N. Sikki won the mixed doubles title with an 21-15, 21-16 win over Toby Ng and Rachel Honderich.
