Tillakaratne Dilshan will bring his international career to a close at the end of the upcoming one day and Twenty20 international series between Sri Lanka and Australia.

The 39-year-old Sri Lankan retired from Test cricket back in 2013, but continued to play for his country in the limited overs formats.

Dilshan invented the shot which is now known as the Dilscoop, which sees a batsman flick the ball over the wicketkeeper’s head, and has been one of Sri Lanka’s most consistent performers in one day international cricket.

He has scored a total of 17,624 international runs in his career, which includes 39 centuries, with perhaps his best season coming in 2015 when he was the third highest run scorer in the world for one day matches.

His best score came in the 2015 International Cricket Council World Cup, when he scored 161 not out against Bangladesh.

Dilshan was a member of the Sri Lankan team which won the Twenty20 World Cup in 2014, beating India in the final.

He is only the fourth Sri Lankan to pass the 10,000-run mark in one-day matches, with only 11 batsman having achieved the feat to date.

In addition to his success with the bat, Dilshan has taken 106 wickets in limited overs matches, as well as 39 in Test matches.

Tomorrow’s match with Australia will be his final one-day international, with Sri Lanka Cricket’s President Thilanga Sumathipala stating the game in Dambulla will be dedicated to Dilshan.

He will then feature in two Twenty20 matches against Australia next month.
