The Japanese multi-national electronics corporation has been named a Gold Partner in the category "Audio-Visual Equipment, Home Appliances, Electric Bicycles, Care Products (bathroom, vanity, The Shower and home elevators for the elderly and persons with impairments) as well as the Power Assist Suit".

The addition of Panasonic brings the total number of Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Partners to 44.

"It gives me great pleasure to welcome Panasonic Corporation as a Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Gold Partner," said Tokyo 2020 President Yoshirō Mori.

"Panasonic is a Worldwide Olympic Partner, and supported the Paralympic Games for a total of 16 years beginning with the Nagano 1998 Winter Paralympic Games.

"Through its various sponsorship activities, Panasonic has accumulated a wealth of experience and expertise in Games-related matters, and we are confident that the company will make a valuable contribution to the success of the Tokyo 2020 Games."

The agreement grants Panasonic marketing rights for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and Japan's national Paralympic team.

"We are very proud to be able to support the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games," said Panasonic President Kazuhiro Tsuga.

"For 16 years, from the Nagano 1998 Winter Paralympic Games, Panasonic was a proud supporter of the Paralympic Games.

"And in 2014, we became the first Japanese company to become a Worldwide Paralympic Partner of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

"Panasonic will continue to support the Paralympic Movement and strive to create an inclusive society for persons with impairments through supporting Para-sports, while also offering products and services accessible to everyone, including the elderly and persons with impairments."

Worldwide Olympic Partners Atos, Bridgestone and Omega have already been signed up as Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Gold Partners.

The Paralympic Games in Tokyo are scheduled to take place from August 25 to September 6 in 2020.

Their preparations received praise from IPC chief executive Xavier Gonzalez in January.

He claimed Tokyo 2020 were the "best prepared Organising Committee".
