Discus thrower Bev Jones and wheelchair racer Carly Tait have been added to Britain’s athletics team for the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Both athletes were originally reserves, however, as a result of additional slots being made available to ParalympicsGB, they have now been added to the team that will compete in Brazil in September.

Jones, 41, winner of a bronze medal at London 2012 in the F37 category and will be competing at her fifth Games.

Tait made her British debut at last month’s International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics European Championships in Italian city Grosseto, winning silver medals in both the T34 100 and 400 metres.

Their selection comes just three days after Libby Clegg and Paralympic champion Jonnie Peacock and were named among 41 athletes to have been added to the British athletics team.

A total of 13 track and field athletes, including six-time Paralympic champion David Weir, were named in the team last month but they have been joined by several more Paralympic, world and European medallists.

Peacock, winner of the men’s T44 100m gold medal at London 2012, has been included in the selection and will hope to repeat his success from four years ago in a challenging field.

One of his biggest rivals will be the United States' Jarryd Wallace, who beat the Briton at the IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final at the Olympic Stadium in London last weekend.

Clegg, winner of silver medals at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Paralympics in the T12 100m, will be heading to Rio de Janeiro in fine form after breaking the 200m world record at the Grand Prix, clocking a time of 24.44sec.

Today’s announcement takes the number of selected British athletes to 258 from 19 sports.
