Cambodia's Rio 2016 bound athletes have been bid farewell by the country's Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The delegation travelling to Brazil were treated to a "grand farewell" reception at the Peace Building in capital city Phnom Penh.

The event was the first time a Prime Minister has ever met with the country's athletes personally ahead of an Olympic Games.

Cambodia has never won an Olympic medal but will be represented in Rio by taekwondo player Sorn Seavmey, who won the women’s over 67 kilograms title at the Asian Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament in The Philippines’ capital Manila in April.

She became the first-ever athlete from her country to triumph in an official pre-Games qualifying competition.

Women's freestyle wrestler Chov Sotheara is also set to represent the country at the Games, alongside swimmers Hemthon Vitiny and Pou Sovijja.

In addition, Neko Hiroshi and Nary Ly will run the men's and women's marathon respectively.

Hiroshi is a Japanese born comedian who has become naturalised for his new country.

The delegation, selected by the Cambodian Olympic Committee (NOCC), also attended a press conference where telecommunications company Cellcard unveiled their official sponsorship of the team.

Gift packages were given to the team with two fans sponsored to attend Rio to support Cambodia.

Another farewell will be held at Phnom Penh airport before the team's flight to Rio.
