South Korea claimed a clean sweep of the senior Kyorugi gold medals at the Oceania region’s inaugural World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) President’s Cup in Australia’s capital Canberra.

Six of the eight finals at the multi-purpose AIS Arena were all-South Korean encounters, while Seon-Hee Lim beat Australia’s Benecia Cheong in the women’s under 49 kilograms gold medal match and You-Jin Jang overcame another Aussie, Ruth Hock, in the women’s under 67kg showdown.

Keshena Waterford and Deanna Kyriazopoulos were the under 49kg bronze medallists and fellow home favourites Nicole Men and Lorna Munro had to settle for third place in the under 67kg category.

Ah-Reum Lee got the better of Geum-Byeol Lim in the women’s under 57kg final as Australia’s Catherine Risbey and South Korea’s Min-Jeong Kim shared the third step of the podium.

Saebom An was the other female winner, defeating Da-Bin Lee to the women’s over 67kg crown with Australia’s Eve Ember and Tassya Stevens taking the bronze medals.

Eun-Jae Joo saw off the challenge of Yong-Kwan Lee in the men’s under 58kg final, and there was also success for Seok-Bae Kim, Hun Kim and Seung-Hwan Lee in the respective men’s under 68kg, under 80kg and over 80kg divisions respectively.

Seok-Bae Kim beat Je-Yeup to gold, while Hun Kim downed Gil-Young Byeon and Lee overcame Kyo-Don In.

The under 58kg bronze medals went to Australia’s Bailey Lewis and Adrian Abela, while the under 68kg equivalents were won by Australia’s Thomas Afonczenko and South Korea’s Dong-Yun Shin.

South Korea’s Ji-Yong Park and Australia’s Jack Marton came third in the under 80kg with French Polynesia’s Tuarai Hery and South Korea’s Yoon-Min Bae securing the over 80kg bronze medals.

Among the winners in the Poomsae events were Australians Andy Yang and Han Nguyen, gold medallists in the individual male and female junior events respectively.
