The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has opened its bid process for the 2017 World Grand Prix finals.

The top women's tournament features the best national teams in the world, with pool play eventually leading to the finals which feature the five best teams as well as the hosts.

These are then split into two groups of three before semi-final and final action.

The FIVB hope to implement "a competitive, effective and sustainable bidding process” in order to provide interested host nations with an opportunity to develop the sport.

All bids for the annual competition must be submitted by August 15.

“The bidding process is crucial to the development and advancement of our sport,” said FIVB President Dr Ary S Graça.

“It is an open and transparent manner in which to ensure quality and efficiency in the organisation of our tournaments.

"We are here to help the organisers plan and execute a top level volleyball event, which will help take our sport to an even higher level of professionalism."

This year's FIVB World Grand Prix concluded in Thailand's capital Bangkok on July 10.

Back-to-back Olympic champions Brazil warmed up nicely for their gold medal defence on home soil in Rio de Janeiro by ousting defending champions the United States, 18–25, 25–17, 25–23, 22–25, 15–9.
