South Korea, Russia and Italy ended the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) Youth A World Championships in style as they each clinched a gold medal on the final day of action in Limerick.

Jeong Youngjin, yesterday's individual champion, and Kim Woocheol of South Korea breezed to a dominant win in the men's relay they finished with a commanding score of 1,238 points.

Russia were forced to settle for silver as they fell four points adrift of the winning total on 1,234, while bronze was secured by Belarus, though they were some way behind the South Korean team.

The Asian nation seemed intent on claiming their third crown in two days but hardly raced out of the blocks, recording the fifth-best fencing score after 22 successes and 14 losses handed them 232 points.

Belarus had put in the best display in the opening discipline as their 25 victories and 11 defeats saw them score 250 points.

Jeong and Kim improved in the swimming section as their time of 1min 56.46sec to give themselves every chance of taking home yet another gold medal as it earned them a healthy 351 points.

Britain, who eventually ended down in sixth place, were the surprise package in the pool, clocking 1:52.92 for a score of 362.

The South Korean duo saved the best until last as they recorded an impressive 10:45.09 in the combined event as they stormed to the title, crossing the line ahead of Hungary, who narrowly missed out on a podium spot as they came fourth.

In the women's relay, Aurora Tognetti and Elena Micheli beat off competition from Germany and Egypt to land the top honours with a score of 1,108 points.

Germany fell seven points short in second, with Egypt rounding off the podium with 1,090.

The mixed relay crown went to Russia's Andrei Zuev and Xeina Fralcova, whose score of 1,202 points proved enough to edge Hungary and Egypt.
