South Korea claimed double men's gold today at the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) Youth A World Championships in Limerick, with Jeong Youngjin charging through the field to claim individual spoils.

The 18-year-old was down in ninth place after the fencing and swimming sections only to fight back superbly in the concluding run-shoot.

He clocked a time of 11min 03.91sec - the fastest of day - to claim victory by three points and three seconds, with 1,176 points.

Belarus's Ivan Khamtsou had to settle for second place after being pipped at the post.

Andrei Zuev of Russia took bronze on 1,165 points.

Emiliano Hernandez of Mexico finished fourth, with another Korean fifth in the form of Kim Woocheol.

Britain's Myles Pillage swam a magnificent 1:59.66, almost four seconds faster than anyone else, to climb to second, only to fall back down to ninth after a poor run-shoot.

Jeong, Kim and Kim Dae Won claimed team gold for South Korea on 3,436 points.

Russia clinched the silver medal on 3,422, while Belarus managed 3,389 for bronze.

Mixed relay action is now due to take place tomorrow.
