Russia's Dmitry Svatkovsky has been re-elected President of the European Confederation of Modern Pentathlon (ECMP) for a fourth term.

The 44-year-old was elected unopposed at the ECMP's Congress in Sofia.

Svatkovsky was the Olympic individual modern pentathlon gold medallist at Sydney 2000.

He also won an Olympic silver medal representing the Unified Team at Barcelona 1992.

Svatkovsky retired after Sydney and worked as a modern pentathlon coach for a short while before moving into politics.

From 2006 until 2010, he worked as the Minister of Economics of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

Since 2010 has been the Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, where he is involved in the region's preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which is due to be staged in Russia.

Latvia's Andris Feldmanis and Bulgaria's Andrei Kuzmanov were re-elected as Vice-Presidents unopposed.

A total of six candidates stood for the four places on the ECMP Board.

Votes were cast by 22 countries.

Lithuania's Andrejus Zadneprovoskis, an Olympic silver and bronze medallist at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, and Poland's Anna Bajan both polled 20 votes.

They finished narrowly ahead of Hungary's Simóka Beáta, a four-time world champion, and Britain's Anthony Temple.

They both earned 19 votes.

Italy's Stefano Pecci and Finland's  Jouko Pakarinen were the unsuccessful candidates, getting eight and one votes respectively.

Italy will have a representative on the ECMP Board, though, after Riccardo di Luca was elected as the athletes' representative.

The 30-year-old won a gold medal in the team event at the 2012 World Championships and took part in that year's Olympic Games in London.

Austria's Alexander Peirits and Poland's Slavomir Kopec were re-elected as the honorary auditors.
