An Olympic Games-dedicated website has been launched by the Badminton World Federation ahead of the start of Rio 2016 next month.

The site, available here, will boast "comprehensive" coverage of badminton competition at the Games across all five categories - men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles - from the group stage through to the medal matches.

It will bring fans news, photos, videos and results from the sport at Rio 2016, with action due to take place from August 11 to 20 at the Riocentro – Pavilion 4.

"We have carved out this niche for badminton fans who want to keep track of the Rio 2016 results and what’s happening with their favourite players," BWF secretary general Thomas Lund said.

"We also anticipate they will want to review past Olympic tournaments and results so we have included these as well as the Race to Rio rankings which determined the provisional Olympic qualifiers.

"We anticipate this portal will be the gateway to a great fan experience during the Rio 2016 Olympics and we look forward to delivering this to our growing global fan base."

The website will also allow the sport's fans to take a trip down memory lane by offering highlights of previous badminton events at Olympic Games since the sport's debut on the programme at Barcelona 1992.

The historical content also tells the story of badminton’s admission into the Olympic Games following its inclusion as a demonstration sport in Munich 1972 and as an exhibition sport at Seoul 1988.

The BWF is one of only a few International Federations to have a separate site for their fans as well as a corporate branch.
