France booked their place in the Rio 2016 men's basketball competition by beating Canada in the final of the qualification tournament in Manila today.

With Serbia and Croatia sealing Olympic berths by winning events in Belgrade and Turin respectively yesterday, today's game in the Filipino capital was for the final spot available.

It was the French who prevailed at the Mall of Asia Arena, coming through 83-74.

National Basketball Association (NBA) ace Tony Parker was the star of the show for the French, with the San Antonio Spurs point guard spearheading his country's challenge.

The 34-year-old, a four-time NBA champion, scored 26 points with 20 of those coming in the second half.

Canada had only trailed by three points at half-time but the French then turned on the style and pulled away.

The conclusion of the qualification events means that the groups for the Rio 2016 tournament have now been confirmed.

France will play in Group A with defending champions and favourites United States, with Venezuela, Serbia, China and Australia completing the pool.

Group B consists of Argentina, Spain, Lithuania, Nigeria, Croatia and hosts Brazil.
