Home favourite Riccardo Filippelli won the men’s skeet title at the European Shotgun Championship in Lonato del Garda today, continuing Italy's success at the event.

Filippelli overcame Germany’s Sven Korte 16-15 in the final after both qualified for the gold medal match with totals of 16.

Korte’s fellow countryman Ralf Buchheim came third after he beat Czech Republic’s Tomas Nydrle 13-12 in the bronze medal match.

Buchheim and Nydrle were the two strongest performers in a three-way shoot-off to qualify for the match, each scoring two to the one of Czech Republic’s Jan Sychra after the trio all finished with totals of 15.

Victory for Filippelli comes after compatriots Massimo Fabbrizi and Chiara Cainero won the men's trap and women's skeet titles earlier in the competition.

Action in Lonato del Garda is due to conclude tomorrow with medallists to be decided in the men’s double trap and mixed teams skeet events.

Italy is hosting the Championship for a 10th time with 42 nations and 445 athletes participating.
