A "We take our hats off" campaign has been launched by the Spanish Paralympic Committee (SPC) in order to generate publicity ahead of Rio 2016.

Hats of a similar style to those set to be worn by members of the Spanish team will be distributed in what is being presented as a tribute to the budding Paralympians.

Each hat will be accompanied by a letter from SPC President Miguel Carballeda, in which he asks people to “take off their hats” for the athletes who “have been working hard and with humility for years to better themselves, transmit the Paralympic values and show that the only limitations are the ones we set up in our minds".

The cause has already been circulated extensively on social media via the hashtag #NosQuitamosElSombrero.

A separate hashtag, #TeamESP, is being used to support the Spanish team during the Games, the SPC have said.

The national governing body are also urging the public to  “take off its hat” to the strong support received from the institutions and enterprises that sponsor the ADOP (Plan Apoyo al Deporte Objetivo Paralímpico - Plan to Support the Paralympic Objective).

The Spanish team claimed a total of eight gold medals, 18 silver and 16 bronze at London 2012 to finish 17th overall on the medals table.

They are hoping to improve upon this performance during September's Games.
