The 2016 World Taekwondo Junior Championships Society have launched an appeal for volunteers for the event.

Those interested in helping out with the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) World Junior Championships, due to take place November 16 to 20 at Burnaby’s Bill Copeland Sports Centre in Canada, must be 16 years old or older.

The British Columbian city, located to the east of Vancouver, is expected to welcome around 800 taekwondo players from over 100 countries during the competition.

Burnaby 2016 have called for volunteers in a number of different categories, including event hospitality, registration and accreditation, sport services, transportation and logistics.

A host of other more general roles are also available.

Successful applicants will receive a Burnaby 2016 branded uniform and will be tasked with ensuring the competition runs smoothly.

A two-day site inspection was carried out by a WTF delegation, led by secretary general Hoss Rafaty, earlier this year and they were happy with progress, according to City of Burnaby Councillor Paul McDonell, the chair of the Organising Committee.

“The delegates were pleased with the hotel setup and with Fortius Sport & Health [the primary athlete training facility], and with our readiness to host the event, still being almost eight months out from the start of the event," ghe said.

Burnaby was awarded the 2016 WTF World Junior Championships at a WTF Extraordinary Council meeting in December following the withdrawal of a bid from Turkey

Turkey pulled out of the running in order to focus on hosting the European Olympic Test Event earlier in the year.

The event in Burnaby later this year will be the first major taekwondo event to take place in Canada since the 1999 World Championships in Edmonton.

The last World Junior Championships were held in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei in 2014, the 10th anniversary edition of the event.
