The International Tennis Federation today announced that its 2017 Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Vietnamese capital will stage the event between August 1 and 4.

The decision was taken on the concluding day of this year's Conference and AGM in Zagreb.

“I’m really looking forward to next year’s AGM," said ITF President David Haggerty.

"I have not personally been to Vietnam but it’s a growing part of the world.

"I think it will be great to take tennis to a nation that has never hosted an AGM before.”

Ho Chi Minh City was awarded the event following a presentation by Vietnam Tennis Federation commercial director Longy Le Hoang and general secretary Nguyen Quoc Ky.

“It is an honour for us to host the tennis family in Vietnam in 2017," said Ky.

"We are proud to welcome the ITF National Associations and Regional Associations to experience our hospitality in Ho Chi Minh City.”

Haggerty used his wrap-up speech this year's Conference and AGM, his first since being elected to replace Italian Francesco Ricci Bitti last September, by praising delegates.

A total of 107 ITF National Associations and six Regional Associations had travelled to Croatia's capital for the event, a record number of participants for a non-election year.

"It was a great gathering of a lot of nations and it was a good opportunity to be able to talk about ITF 2024," he said.

"It was very productive to hear from the nations about what their thoughts are about some of their key priorities.

"One of the most important subjects that we talked about was development, as that’s why we’re all here.

"The ITF’s mission is to develop, promote and grow the game and when you get a gathering of 300 people together it’s electrifying.”

In formal voting, the AGM approved the appointment of France's Mary Pierce and Australia's Mark Woodforde as athlete representative members of the ITF Board.

The AGM also approved a series of amendments to the ITF constitution as well as a number of regulation changes for the ITF’s international team competitions, the Davis Cup and the Fed Cup.

The ITF's chief retiring chief operating officer Juan Margets was named honorary life vice-president of the world governing body.

The AGM approved an application for an increase from class C membership to class B membership for Antigua and Barbuda and Guam.

It also approved an increase from one share to three shares for Hong Kong and Ukraine.

Haiti has decreased from class B to class C membership.

Awards for Services to the Game were approved for Ireland's Des Allen, Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson, Ukraine's German Benyaminov, America's Alan Schwartz, New Zealand's David Smith, Japan's Hiroshi Suzuki, Denmark's Torben Ulrich and Belgium's Luc Vandaele.

An additional award was approved for Great Britain’s Judy Murray, the mother of world number two and Olympic gold medallist Andy, following a nomination by the ITF Coaches Commission.
