Four-time winners Cuba made it two wins out of two at the Men's Central American and Caribbean Basketball Championship after beating Antigua and Barbuda at the Roberto Durán Arena in Panama City.

Javier Justiz top scored with 18 points as Cuba joined hosts Panama at the top of Group A on four points.

The Caribbean nation last won the title on home soil in Havana in 1999, but have since failed to finish any higher than fourth place.

Today’s other match in Group A saw Puerto Rico bounce back from yesterday’s defeat against hosts Panama to overcome Nicaragua 98-57.

In Group B, defending champions Mexico and the Dominican Republic maintained their 100 per cent starts with victories over Costa Rica and the Bahamas respectively.

Adrián Zamora scored 11 points for Mexico on their way to a 78-46 success, while Víctor Liz was the Dominican Republic’s star man, racking up 23 points in an 87-80 triumph.

Group stage action in Panama City is set to continue until Thursday (June 23) with the semi-finals and final scheduled for Friday (June 24) and Saturday (June 25) respectively.

Ten teams are participating in the event also known as Centrobasket.

The top five teams will automatically qualify for Division A of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification and for the 2017 FIBA Americup, with the top seven qualifying for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games.
