Serbia maintained their 100 per cent record in Pool C1 at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World League by overcoming Poland in Kaliningrad, Russia.

The Serbian team had overcome Russia and Bulgaria in straight sets in their opening matches of the competition, while Poland boasted a victory and defeat from their ties.

Poland, though, proved no match for the 2015 World League runners-up, as the Serbian team stormed to a 25-20, 25-2-, 25-23 victory.

The final match of the pool phase saw hosts Russia achieve their second victory, as they came from a set down to beat Bulgaria 20-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-22.

Twelve teams are contesting Group 1 of the intercontinental round at the men's World League - and were split into three groups of four for the initial three matches, with all results counting to the overall league table.

Only London 2012 silver medallist Brazil, who were competing in Pool B1, have been able to match Serbia’s record after they overcame the United States 25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22.

With Brazil now set to travel to Serbia to compete in the second set of three matches, alongside Bulgaria and Iran, it could give France, Italy, Russia, Belgium and the United States a chance to close the gap, with the five nations all boasting five wins to date.

At the end of the opening set of Group 2 fixtures, Canada and Turkey top the 12-team standings after achieving three straight wins.

The Turkish team rounded off Pool A2 with a 25-21, 25-20, 25-23 win over the Netherlands, while Canada matched their achievement by overcoming the Czech Republic 25-16, 25-23, 24-26, 26-24 in Pool C2.

Greece, Slovenia and Montenegro won all three of their opening pool matches to share the lead at the top of the Group 3 standings.

The women's Grand Prix competition, which follows the same format as the World League, also continued today.

China recorded a 25-23, 25-16, 25-20 win over Brazil in Pool D1 to occupy joint top spot in Group 1 with Russia, who were 19-25, 25-15, 25-22, 22-25, 15-10 winners over Italy.

Both China and Russia have secured six victories from their opening matches in the group stage.

Puerto Rico are the sole unbeaten team in Group 2, while Peru remain the only team with a 100 per cent record in Group 3.
