Hosts Brazil continued their impressive start to the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World League by beating the United States in four-sets in Rio de Janeiro.

The London 2012 silver medallists triumphed 25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22 to make it three wins out of three in Pool B1.

Twelve teams are contesting the intercontinental round at the men's World League - and were split into three groups of four for the initial three matches, with all results counting to the overall league table.

Serbia brushed past Bulgaria in Kaliningrad to record their second Pool C1 win by a scoreline of 28-26, 27-25, 25-18, while France were too good for Australia in Pool A1, beating them 25-14, 25-18, 25-21 in Sydney. 

Along with Brazil, France and Serbia remain the only other unbeaten teams in the group.

There were also wins for Italy and Russia against Belgium in Pool A1 - 25-15, 25-23, 25-21 - and Poland in Pool C1 - 25-22, 25-19, 25-22 - respectively.

Meanwhile in Pool B1, Iran battled to a hard-fought 25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 13-25, 15-11 victory over Argentina.

The women's Grand Prix competition, which follows the same format as the World League, also continued today.

In Pool F1, The Netherlands recovered from yesterday’s loss to Russia with a 19-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-22 success against Italy in Bari.

Russia followed up their win by overcoming Thailand 25-22, 25-22, 25-13 in the same city.

Pool E1 action took place in Long Beach, where the United States beat Germany 25-17, 24-26, 25-10, 25-23 and Turkey defeated Japan 21-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13.

Macau played host to two Pool D1 matches as Brazil overcame Belgium 23-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-18 and China registered a 27-25, 17-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-9 win over Serbia.

Action in both the World League and Grand Prix continues tomorrow across the groups.
