India will play Australia in the final of the International Hockey Federation Champions Trophy despite a 4-2 defeat to the same opposition in London today.

With the table topping Kookaburras already assured of a spot in the gold medal match, India, hosts Britain and Belgium were all hoping to join them at Lee Valley.

The Indians were in pole position in second spot behind Australia, and although they came up short, Britain and Belgium could only draw 3-3 in their match.

It meant Britain finished on six points, one behind the Indians, with Belgium on five.

Australia roared into a 3-0 lead as Trent Mitton, Aran Zalewski and Flynn Ogilvie all netted.

Raghunath Vokkaliga pulled one back for the Indians, but there was daylight again for the Australians when Tristan White registered.

Another Indian goal through Mandeep Singh proved only a consolation.

In the hosts’ game, Britain had to battle back from 3-1 down to salvage a draw.

Thomas Briels put Belgium in front in the opening minute before Barry Middleton equalised.

Two goals from Loick Luypaert then put the Belgians in command, but late strikes from David Ames and another from Middleton rescued a draw.

The draw meant that Britain finished fourth to book a bronze medal match with Olympic champions Germany.

The Germans had no chance of reaching the final going into the last set of round robin matches, but finished third after hammering South Korea 7-0.

The medal matches will be played tomorrow.
