Poland’s Ewa Durska added the continental title to her world and Paralympic crowns with a world record breaking victory on the final day of the Internatinal Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics European Championships in Grosseto.

Durska, 39, managed a huge 14.10 metres in the final round of the women’s shot put F20 class to add the European title to her impressive collection.

The four-time world champion finished comfortably ahead of a field led by silver and bronze medal winners Antonina Baranova and Ines Fernandes, of Russia and Portugal respectively.

It came on a good morning for Poland as Lukasz Wietecki eased to victory in the men's 5,000m T13 in the Carlo Zecchini Stadium in 15:48.52.

Russia continue to lead the way on the medals table, however, winning five more gold medals.

World silver medallist Egor Sharov safely retained the 400m T13 gold he won in Swansea two years ago, breaking the European record.

The 27-year-old knocked 0.05 seconds off the mark he set at last year’s World Championships to cross the line in 48.37sec and beat team-mate Aleksei Labzin, in 50.16.

World bronze medallist Evgenii Torsunov also claimed Russian sprinting spoils after holding-off Britain’s Graeme Ballard to win the 200m T36 in 25.54.

It marked his third gold of the week after 100m and long jump victories.

World champion Vladislav Frolov retained his shot put F32 European title he won two years ago with a third round throw of 9.77m, while world bronze medallist Andrei Poroshin won the men’s long jump T38 after leaping 5.72m in the third round.
