Australia’s Jessica Fox will be looking to claim a fifth C1W victory at the International Canoe Federation (ICF) World Cup in La Seu d'Urgell with the second leg of the 2016 series set to begin at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic course tomorrow.

The London 2012 K1W silver medallist won the C1W in Italian town Ivrea last weekend and can now become the first woman to win the first two World Cup races of the season in the event.

Fox, who topped the World Cup standings in 2013 and 2015, will certainly be confident of achieving the feat having won the C1W on the last three occasions that La Seu d'Urgell has featured on the World Cup calendar.

This included victory in 2013, the year in which Fox claimed an impressive four consecutive wins.

Also vying for a fifth title in La Seu d'Urgell are Slovakian twin brothers Pavol and Peter Hochschorner, who have won a record 31 World Cup events, all in C2M.

Their last victory dates back to July 2015, however, when they were victorious on home waters in Liptovský Mikuláš.

They finished 10th in Ivrea, where France’s Nicolas Scianimanico and Hugo Cailhol triumphed with their first podium place in a World Cup event.

Scianimanico and Cailhol can become the first pair to win the first two C2M World Cup events of the season since the Hochschorner brothers in 2002.

Fresh from her K1W win in Ivrea, Germany’s Ricarda Funk will be aiming to become the first woman to win twice successively since Slovakia’s Jana Dukátová came out on top in Prague and Bratislava in 2012.

Spain’s Maialen Chourraut, who won the K1W in La Seu d'Urgell in 2010 and 2014, was the last woman to win the first two K1W World Cup events of a season in 2012.

Czech Republic’s Michal Jane won the C1M in Ivrea, earning him his second World Cup success in the event after also winning in Prague in 2010.

He can become the first man to win back-to-back C1M races since Slovenia’s Anze Bercic won in La Seu d'Urgell and on home waters in Tacen in 2013.

The last man to win the first two C1M World Cup events of a season was France’s Tony Estanguet in 2004.

Italy’s Giovanni de Gennaro won the K1M event in Ivrea and can become the first man since France’s Etienne Daille in 2012 to win consecutive World Cup races.

De Gennaro became the first Italian to win a K1M World Cup event since Daniele Molmenti won in La Seu d'Urgell in 2010.

Slovenia's Peter Kauzer was the last man to win the first two K1M World Cup races of the season when he won in Tacen and L'Argentière-la-Bessée in France in 2011.

This year marks the 15th time that an ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup has been held in La Seu d’Urgell.

Action is due to conclude on Sunday (June 12).
