Eurosport have agreed a deal to broadcast a monthly highlights show of International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) events to the Asia-Pacific region with the show set to be shown in 47 new countries and territories.

Currently, the IFSC’s climbing monthly show features a round-up key competitions, including the best action from World Cup and World Championship competitions in lead, speed and boulder disciplines.

The programme also includes profiles of the sport’s athletes and climbing lifestyle features.

Distributed by IFSC's exclusive media partner, Broadreach Media, the show is broadcast in 135 countries worldwide.

The IFSC are hopeful that the agreement with Eurosport will help to boost their audience throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

It also sees the governing body work with the Discovery-owned sports broadcaster, who were awarded all television and multi-platform broadcast rights in Europe for the 2018-2024 Olympic Games cycle by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) last year.

"With Japanese and Korean climbers leading the world in the IFSC rankings at the moment, Asia is a very strong continent of growth for sport climbing and IFSC,” said Marco Scolaris, IFSC President.

“Hence, it's great to partner with a broadcaster of Eurosport's status to increase climbing's exposure on television there."

The deal with Eurosport comes just days after sport climbing was one of five sports recommended for inclusion at the Tokyo 2020 by the IOC Executive Board.

All five were approved in exactly the same form as they were first proposed by Japanese organisers last year, with a final decision is due to be made by the IOC membership during the Session in Rio de Janeiro in August.

Fox Sports in Australia, Africa and Europe, OSN in the Middle East and Setanta Sports in Ireland are among the broadcasters the IFSC currently have relationships with.

The governing body also announced an extension to its television deal in Japan in April, which would see guaranteed terrestrial television exposure with Japanesestate broadcaster NHK included for the first time.
