Triple world champion Patrick Chan has announced that he will be relocating to Vancouver to continue his preparations for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

The 25-year-old Canadian - also a double Olympic silver medallist from the Sochi 2014 Games - had been based in American city Detroit.

However, he has opted to return home in the the run-up to the Games in South Korea, with his coach Kathy Johnson also making the move.

Johnson has coached Chan since 2012 with the pair set to base themselves at the Champs International Skating Centre in Burnaby.

Vancouver hosted the Winter Olympics in 2010 and Chan won one of his three Four Continents titles there in 2009.

“I am excited to come home and train full-time in Canada in the lead up to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games," he said.

"Vancouver holds a special place in my heart and I am looking forward to calling the city home.

"I am thankful for the years I spent at the Detroit Skating Club and all the support they provided me.

"The decision to change environments was a collaborate decision with my team and after reflecting on the past season we decided to make the move to Vancouver.

"Everyone from Skate Canada have been very supportive, and Kathy and I know Vancouver will be a great environment for us.”

Chan had taken a step back from figure skating after winning his Olympic silver medals in the singles and team event at Sochi.

However, he has started competing again this year with his focus on Pyeongchang 2018.

He finished fifth at this year's World Championships in Boston.
