The hand-cyclist, who won gold at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games in the road race, earned World Cup honours in the event by finishing the 49 kilometre course in one hour, 24min and eight seconds.

Portugal’s Luis Miguel Costa was the South African’s closest challenger after finishing in 1:27:30, while a time of 1:32:42 saw Van Dyk’s team-mate Andries Scheepers claim bronze.

It proved to be a repeat podium of the time trial event, which was won by Van Dyk in a time of 29:16.87.

Costa and Scheepers completed the race in 31:50.03 and 33:03.59, respectively, to win the remaining medals.

Stuart McCreadie also secured double gold for the host nation as he finished 50 seconds faster than Austria’s Walter Ablinger in the H3 time trial event by clocking 30:02.87.

He backed up the display by triumphing in the road race in a time of 1:24:45, with Ablinger earning his second silver medal by finishing in 1:26:01.

Ireland’s Declan Slevin finished a lap down, but was able to secure the bronze.

Nicolas Pieter du Preez, South Africa’s double world champion, comfortably won the men’s H1 time trial in a time of 33:15.89.

Austria’s Ernst Bachmaier and Poland’s Rafal Mikolajczyk completed the podium in 39:56.27 and 41:30.92.

After ending the World Cup as the dominant nation, Cycling South Africa’s President William Newman claimed the event was crucial to helping to developing the nation’s best Para-cyclists.

“It was a very important event because it gave more local riders a chance to participate in an international event,” he said.

“It is a positive aspect of our sport as we are creating international opportunities for them.”

Slovakian star Jozef Metelka was one of the elite riders to make the trip from Europe, with the C4 rider claiming the men’s time trial in 32:42.99.

He finished well clear of local rider Gary Coetzee and Ireland’s Jerry Towey, who finished in 36:18.61 and 37:25.04.
