Eduarda Lisboa and Elize Maia triumphed in the women’s final at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Fortaleza Open on a day of double success for the host nation Brazil.

The duo had impressed in beating Vanuatu’s sixth-seeded Miller Pata and Linline Matauatu in yesterday’s semi-final and they were able to continue their form against fellow Brazilians Juliana Felisberta and Taiana Lima.

Eduarda and Elize Maia held their nerve towards the end of a tightly fought first set to eventually win the opener 21-17.

The second set proved equally close, with the score standing at 17-17 as the match approached a finale, with Eduarda and Elize Maia dominating the close stages to triumph 21-18.

“Juliana and Taiana is a double hard team to play against, they have won so many international tournaments and the FIVB World Tour season championship, our game isn’t at the level of theirs, but we keep studying a lot, watching their matches,” said Eduarda afterwards.

“We studied, didn’t panic, played our game and luckily it all worked out.

“We are seeing an evolution in our team and it motivates us even more, and we keep chasing our dreams.”

An all-Brazilian podium was secured by Rebecca Silva and Liliane Maestrini, after they secured a 21-19, 21-19 win over the Vanuatu duo.
