An International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Nations Cup showjumping leg scheduled for Lummen in Belgium today has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

This follows five days of heavy rain across Belgium.

The event, due to be the third leg in the 2016 series and the first stop on the premier Europe Division 1 League, was a key opportunity to gain points on the way to the FEI Nations Cup Final in Barcelona in September.

In a statement released today, the Organising Committee explained that “since April 16 more than 30 millimetres of rain a day has been falling in Belgium”, and that, with huge levels falling earlier this week and more scheduled, they had no choice.

"Even for Belgium these are exceptional weather conditions," the statement said.

Teams will now be distributed points based on the "total number of points obtained at their other allocated events divided by the number of events at which they have participated for points".
