Gregory Verpoorten has been re-elected President of Badminton Europe by acclamation at an Annual Delegates’ Meeting (ADM) in Podčetrtek in Slovenia.

The Belgian has renewed his mandate until 2019, while Russian Andrey Antropov will remain as vice-president until 2018.

Verpoorten succeeded Poul-Erik Høyer as head of the continental body in April 2014 after the Dane had stepped down to become President of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

The ADM also saw new additions made to the Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC) Board of Directors with Slovakia’s Peter Tarcala and Denmark’s Klavs Andreassen joining until 2019, and Scotland’s Emma Mason and Germany’s Martin Kranitz joining until 2020.

"I applaud all the delegates for their cooperation and a very productive ADM," said Verpoorten.

"The ADM went very well and we managed to cover all the topics in the planned time frame.

"Congratulations also to the newly-elected directors and I look forward to working with them.

"Welcome on board and I hope that our members will continue the great cooperation with us.

"Plenty has to be done to improve our sport in Europe and with the new Board of Directors, I am positive that our team will only be stronger."

In addition to a successful career in finance, Verpoorten has vast experience in badminton administration since first becoming a coach with the Belgian Badminton Federation in 2003.

From 2006, he served a five-year tenure as President of the National Federation, and in 2007 became a director of development at Badminton Europe before being appointed vice-president of the BWF in 2009.

The ADM was attended by 38 Member Associations, BEC Board of Directors, BEC staff and several distinguished guests.

It formed part of the BEC Congress, which also consisted of the BEC Members' Forum, the fourth Awards Gala Evening and the Board of Directors' meeting.

More than 60 delegates and participants attended the Members' Forum, where multiple badminton-related topics were presented by external experts and BEC staff.

A practical badminton session was introduced for the first time this year, giving delegates the chance to demonstrate their skills on court.

Podčetrtek’s Terme-Olimia Hotel played host to the Awards Gala evening, which was attended by more than 100 people.

Denmark’s Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen won the BEC European Male Player of the Year award for 2015, while Spain’s Carolina Marin claimed the female equivalent.

Czech Republic’s capital Prague were confirmed as hosts of the BEC Congress in 2017, when the continental body celebrates its 50th anniversary.
