British Lionhearts are well on course for a place in the last four of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) after comfortably winning the first leg of their quarter-final against Ukraine Otamans at York Hall in London.

Light flyweight Harvey Horn set the Group B winners on their way to a 4-1 victory by beating Denys Kozaruk on all three cards.

Home debutant Peter McGrail produced an equally convincing performance in overcoming Vladyslav Vyetoshkin at bantamweight and overall victory on the night was confirmed by light welterweight Sam Maxwell, who got the better of Volodymyr Matviichuk.

Middleweight Valerii Kharlamov pulled one back for Otamans thanks to a split decision win over Denis Radovan.

That was as good as it got for the Group A runners-up as heavyweight Josip-Bepo Filipi defeated Viktor Trush by unanimous decision to complete an impressive night’s work from the Lionhearts.

The second leg, also at York Hall, is scheduled to take place tomorrow evening.
