Another 36 tickets to Rio 2016 will be available this weekend when the Serbian city of Zrenjanin plays host to wrestling’s final continental Olympic qualifying tournament.

Approximately 500 wrestlers, coaches and officials will be present for three days of competition in wrestling’s three Olympic styles.

Entries include the likes of world and Olympic gold medallist Aleksei Mishin of Russia as well as number of young hopefuls, such as 19-year-old Norwegian Grace Bullen.

Along with Mishin, the field in Greco-Roman includes London 2012 silver medallists Revaz Lashkhi of Georgia, Tamas Lorincz of Hungary and Heiki Nabi of Estonia as well as Beijing 2008 bronze medallists Roman Amoyan of Armenia, Armen Vardanyan of Ukraine and Mindaugas Mizgaitis of Lithuania.

A pair of London 2012 bronze medallists, Damian Janikowski of Poland and Aleksandr Kazakevic of Lithuania, as well as 2014 world champion Melonin Noumonvi of France, join Mishin at middleweight, potentially making the 85 kilograms category one of the most competitive.

In the women’s events, Beijing 2008 bronze medallist Agnieszka Wieszczek-Kordus of Poland and London 2012 bronze medal winners, Yulia Ratkevich of Azerbaijan and Maider Unda of Spain, stand out in a field of world and European medallists.

In addition to Ratkevich, Hungary’s Marianna Sastin and Ukraine’s Alina Makhinya come to Zrenjanin as former world champions.

Ukraine’s Oksana Herhel is the reigning world champion at the non-Olympic weight category of 60kg and is entered at 58kg.

With entries continuing to trickle in, London 2012 bronze medallist Gabor Hatos of Hungary appears to be the only Olympic medallist entered in freestyle, while David Safaryan of Armenia and Ibragim Aldatov of Ukraine come in as former world champions.

Action is due to begin tomorrow with the women’s freestyle 48kg and 53kg, men’s freestyle 57kg and 65kg and Greco-Roman 59kg and 66kg categories taking centre stage.

Safaryan will look to rekindle the magic that lifted him to the 66kg world title in 2013, while European Games silver medallist Magomedmurad Gadzhiev of Poland and bronze medallist Azamat Nurikov of Belarus drop to 65kg to challenge him.

A total of 216 berths for the Rio 2016 wrestling competition have already been assigned to 51 countries.
