Raja Jebali of Tunisia ensured the hosts finished their home International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix event in style as she broke the women’s F40 discus world record at the Rades Athletics Stadium in Tunis.

Jebali smashed the mark set by Nigeria’s Lauritta Onye at last year’s IPC Athletics World Championships by 56 centimetres by throwing 21.50 metres to secure gold as Tunisia enjoyed another podium sweep.

Raoua Tlili, world champion in the F41 classification, took home silver while Fathia Amaimia picked up bronze.

Hania Aidi maintained the Tunisian success on the final day as she outshone the rest of the field to take gold in the women’s F53/54 shot put by recording a best attempt of 7.11m.

The field events continued to yield results for Tunisia as Faouzi Rzig reigned supreme in the men’s F34 javelin, throwing 32.46m to claim a commanding triumph.

Paralympic silver medallist Sonia Mansour added to the hosts’ haul out on the tack by topping the podium in the women’s T35/36/38 200m in a time of 29.40sec.

Tunisia’s Yassine Gharbi ousted team-mate Fethi Zouinkhi in the T54 800m to secure his second gold of the weekend as the home nation finished at the summit of the medal table at the end of the three days of competition with 31 golds, 22 silvers and 10 bronze.

Greek world champion Manolis Stefanoudakis was another athlete to wrap up a second title of the meeting by winning the men’s F53/54/55 javelin as his best of 28.60m was enough to fend off the rest of the competitors in the discipline.

Polish sprinter Joanna Mazur added the women’s T11 200m crown to her 400m title on day one as she clocked 27.01, while Mozambique athlete Edmilsa Governo won her second race of the third IPC Athletics Grand Prix event of the season by powering home in 26.29 in the T12 200m.

It also proved to be a fruitful day for the Algerian team, who finished behind the hosts on the medal table, as Mohamed Nadjib Amchi earned the men’s F32 shot put crown with a best effort of 32.48m.

Paralympic bronze medallist Mounir Bakiri was 19cm shy of the world record on his way to gold in the F31/32/51 club throw competition, with his second round attempt of 30.35m proving too hot for the remainder of the field to handle.

Hamza Larak then led from start to finish in the men’s F57 javelin as his first-round throw of 31.62m proved enough for gold, while compatriot Nacir Sahli took the F40/41/42 – 44/46 discus crown by throwing 18.76m.

Poland were also in good form in the distance races, with Lukasz Wietecki winning the men’s T13 5,000m in 15min 00.25sec.

Bernard Koskei earned gold for Kenya, always a danger in the longer events, in the T11/12 classification over the same distance by clocking 15:19.34.
