Tokyo 2020

Tokyo 2020 has unveiled plans for its hospitality venue at this year's Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro following a meeting of the Organising Committee’s Executive Board.

The facility, called “Japan House”, will be located in the City of Arts at the heart of the Barra Zone of this summer’s Games, close to the Olympic and Paralympic Village on the area’s Olympic Park.

The City of Arts, a state-of-the-art culture complex, is an iconic building in the Brazilian city and was established in 2013.

Organisers hope the “Japan House” venue will showcase the best of Japanese culture and provide a glimpse to what athletes, officials and spectators will encounter when the Games head to the Japanese capital in four years’ time.

The plans are the subject of consultation between the key stakeholders involved with Tokyo 2020, including the Organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and both the Japanese Olympic and Japanese Paralympic Committees.

The hospitality venue will be open for the duration of Olympic Games, due to run from August 5 to 21, and will then re-open for the Paralympics, scheduled to be held from September 7 to 18.

It is set to welcome a host of people during Rio 2016, such as athletes, members of the Olympic Family, media and visitors to the event who wish to experience Japan’s famous omotenashi hospitality.

Omotenashi is defined in Japanese as “to entertain guests wholeheartedly”.

Tokyo 2020’s media events during Rio 2016 will also be held at the Tokyo House, along with media activities for Japanese athletes due to compete during this summer’s Olympics and Paralympics.
