Kent Farrington claimed an impressive victory at the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Jumping World Cup competition in Wellington, United States.

The competition was the penultimate East Coast event of the inaugural North American League, with a field of 40 riders tackling the sand course.

After the first round of the competition saw 14 riders produce clear rounds, a jump off was required to settle the event, with Farrington ultimately prevailing.

The American, riding on Uceko, produced another clear round and crossed the finishing line in an impressive time of 40.30 seconds.

Germany’s Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum went closest to taking top spot from Farrington by guiding her horse Fibonacci to the finish in 42.83.

“He usually goes best with a really impressive ring, or in an intimidating setting for most horses,” said Farrington about Uceko.

“This is usually where he shines so that’s why I try to pick spookier venues or grass arenas that have bigger, impressive jumps.

“It wasn’t really playing to his strengths today, but he pulled it off anyway, so I’m really happy with him.”

With seven riders having achieved clean rounds again, the battle for the final podium position proved fierce but America’s Richard Spoonder eventually claimed third place by ending in 42.89.

Fellow American Paris Sellon and Canada’s Ian Millar narrowly missed out on the podium by finishing in 43.50 and 43.54 respectively.

The final East Coast event is due to take place in Ocala on February 27.
