The German, backed by pushers Kevin Korona, Martin Putze and Ben Heber, clocked a combined time of 2 mins 11.88 sec on the Swiss course to add to the success he claimed in Lake Placid in the United States earlier this season.

Austrian Benjamin Maier and his team of Marco Rangl, Markus Sammer and Danut Ion Moldovan were second 0.18 behind, but achieved their first podium place of the season.

Third went to Latvian defending champion Oskars Melbardis and pushers Daumants Dreiskens, Arvis Vilkaste and Janis Strenga, who were 0.27 off the pace.

As with the Austrian team, this was their first podium of the season but there was to be no stopping the Germans.

Arndt, the 28-year-old double World Championship gold medallist, has 1490 points on top of the overall standings with his compatriot Francesco Friedrich second on 1370.

Friedrich, who has four world gold medals, won the opening two four-man races this season but had to settle for fourth place today.

All but one race has been won by a German team this season with Nico Walther's quartet, winners twice this campaign, fifth in St Moritz.

There was disappointment today for the home Swiss crew of driver Rico Peter and pushers Simon Friedli, Thomas Amrhein and Fabio Badraun, who could only manage sixth in 2:12.67.

Peter does, however, remain third overall with 1336 points.

There is just one World Cup event left this season - in Königssee in Germany between February 28 and 26.

With 225 points available for victory, the positions at the top of the standings could yet change.
