France's Kevin Staut came out on top at the last qualifying leg for the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Cup Jumping Final in Bordeaux.

Staut and the 15-year-old Reveur de Hurtebise finished clear in 39.86sec, the only sub 40-second time in the jump-off for which a total of 17 combinations qualified.

"Last season wasn’t really good, so I’m very happy to start 2016 with this win, especially in France with all my team here and the owners who have always been behind me," Staut told Horse & Hound.

Simon Delestre and his black mare Qlassic Bois Margot made it a one-two for France, stopping the clock in 40.74.

Australia’s Edwina Tops-Alexander took third place on Caretina De Joter.

"My plan was to keep everything fast and smooth," Tops-Alexander told Horse & Hound.

"My horse spends a lot of time in the air so that’s where we lost time, but I’m very happy with her."

The top five was completed by Germany’s Marcus Ehning with Cornado NRW and Ireland’s Dennis Lynch with All Star 5.

The FEI World Cup Jumping Final is due to take place in Swedish city Gothenburg from March 23 to 28, when the top 18 riders from the Western European League will compete.
