Maddie Bowman continued her excellent recent form by winning the women’s halfpipe title at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Park City in the United States.

The Olympic champion had headed into the event fresh from having become the first American to win four consecutive Winter X Games gold medals, taking victory in the ski superpipe competition in Aspen.

Bowman produced another strong display in front of a home crowd.

The 22-year-old achieved a score of 89.80 points to move to the top of the women’s leaderboard.

It was enough to hold off the challenge of Japan’s Ayana Onozuka, the silver medallist behind Bowman at the X Games.

She finished the competition narrowly adrift on 88.80.

Onozuka, though, will be pleased with her early efforts during the World Cup season having now placed first and second at the opening two events.

France’s Marie Martinod won the bronze medal, finishing with a score of 84.20 points.

Another American, Annalisa Drew, ended a further 4.4 points behind in fourth place.

In the men’s competition Aaron Blunck was able to secure the second World Cup victory of his career, achieving an impressive score of 94.20 points.

The 19-year-old American, whose first victory came at Colorado during 2013, narrowly was able to beat France’s Benoit Valentin after his rival was awarded a total of 92.80.

Valentin, the bronze medallist in the superpipe event at the X Games, was joined by compatriot Kevin Rolland on the podium.

Rolland scored 88.80 points to secure the bronze medal.

Canada’s Noah Bowman ended fourth on 87.20 points.
