Naoko Ishihara overcame Thailand's Nutchaya Sutarporn to claim Japan's fifth gold medal at the Asian Olympic Shooting Qualifier in New Delhi.

She duly claimed the only Rio 2016 quota place available in the event.

After scoring an impressive 14 hits in the semi-final, she was similarly dominant in the gold medal match to prevail 13 hits to nine.

South Korea's Kim Min, who had earlier lost out to Sutarporn in the final platoff, beat India's Saniya Sheikh 14-11 in the bronze medal match.

It was a fifth gold in six days for the Japanese, but a first was also won today for Malaysia as Johnathan Wong Guanjie claimed the 10 metres air pistol title.

Wong led from the outset against Saudi Arabia's Atallah Alanai, building a comfortable 2.6-points advantage along the first fifth series.

But he hit a poor 8.2 on his 13th shot, which gave Atallah an opportunity to close the gap until he briefly took the lead after 18 shots.

Wong had the final say, however, hitting an excellent 10.7-10.3 combination in the final series to overtake Atallah and claim gold with with 198.7 points.

Both finalists received quota places along with third placed North Korean Kim Jong Su.

India's Omkar Singh and Japan's Seiji Morikawa claimed the final two spots despite finishing down in seventh and either respectively.

The Asian Qualifier is being held in New Delhi after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) refused to recognise last year's continental championships in Kuwait City due to Kuwait being also suspended from the IOC for Government interference.

Action is due to continue on a final day of action tomorrow with the men's 50m rifle 3 positions and skeet finals.
