Former Commonwealth Games Federation Sir Peter Heatly is to be post-humously inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF), it has been announced.

Sir Peter, who died last September at the age of 91, will be one of 16 people from 11 different countries inducted during the ISHOF's annual honours weekend in Santa Clara in California on June 3 to 5.

Sir Peter represented Britain in diving at the 1948 Olympic Games in London. 

He also competed for Scotland in three Commonwealth Games, winning gold medals in the 10 metre highboard at Auckland 1950 and Cardiff 1958 and in the 3m springboard at Vancouver 1954.

He also won a silver medal in 3m springboard at Auckland bronze in the 10m highboard in Vancouver. 

After retiring from diving, Sir Peter embarked upon a successful career in sports administration.

He was involved in the organisation of the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh as chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland. 

Sir Peter was then chairman of the CGF from 1982 until 1990. 

He was later appointed as a life vice-president of the CGF and was knighted in 1990. 

Sir Peter will be inducted alongside several well-known names, including Darra Torres, a 12-time Olympic medallist, who represented the United States in five Games between 1984 and 2008.

Others nominated include America's Aaron Peirsol, a five-time Olympic gold medallist, and Bob Bowman, the coach of Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all-time with 22 medals, 18 of them gold.

"This is an exceptional class of honorees,” said Camillo Cametti, of Verona, Italy, chairman of ISHOF’s International Selection Committee.

"This class includes many stars well-known in their own countries and around the world, and five pioneers, who have long been overlooked for their accomplishments.”
