Double T44 world sprint champion Richard Browne has been named in the US Paralympics track and field team for 2016, despite suffering broken ribs and a concussion in a recent car crash in Florida.

Browne, a gold medallist in the 100 and 200 metres events at the 2015 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics World Championships in Doha in world record times of 10.61 and 21.27sec respectively, spent two nights in hospital following the crash earlier this month.

His manager Ian Byers claimed is “confident” the injuries will not  jeopardise Browne's chances of competing at this year's Paralympic Gaes in Rio de Janeiro, although he admitted it could impact his preparations.

The 24-year-old headlines the 47-strong United States athletics team for 2016 featuring 12 other reigning world champions.

Two-time Paralympic men’s discuss F44 gold medallist Jeremy Campbell, Lex Gillete, three-times Paralympic silver medallist in the F11 long jump event and T46 world 100m champion Deja Young have all been selected for the squad.

They will be joined by the likes of high jump duo Sam Grewe and Roderick Townsend, world champions in the T42 and T47 categories respectively, and T52 1500 metres and marathon specialist Ray Martin, gold medallist at the IPC Athletics World Championships.

Marathon pair Tatyana McFadden, winner of the 400m, 800m and 1500m gold medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, and London Marathon T53 champion Joshua George have been chosen to represent their country in 2016.

Along with Chelsea McClammer, the duo have already guaranteed their place in their respective marathon events at Rio 2016 following their performances at the Chicago Marathon, the  qualification event.

The US Paralympics track and field side has no fewer than 18 men’s and eight women’s Paralympians and more than two dozen members of the team which returned from last year’s World Championships with a haul of 39 medals have been selected.

That total saw the United States finish third on the medals table, behind Russia, who claimed 69.

China topped the table having won 41 gold, 26 silver and 18 bronze, giving them a total of 85.
