Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President N Ramachandran officially launched the ticket selling process in the country for this year's Olympic Games after the signing of sport travel company Fanatic Sports as their authorised reseller.

All tickets bought for the Games in India must be done through the company.

Tickets for 1,600 sessions across 42 disciplines will be available.

"Earlier, we had a different process, selling the tickets and doing the hospitality part [of the ticket holders]," said Ramachandran.

"Actually, we were not geared up to do that.

"We have enough on our plate.

"So, we decided to do it differently this time.

"We put up the tender on our website and there was bidding and Fanatic Sports won it."

Tickets can be reserved online here, with the process expected to remain open until June.

Thirty per cent more tickets are set to be available for Indians than at London 2012.

India won six medals in the British capital, including a silver for wrestler Sushil Kumar, who was present at the unveiling event in New Delhi today.

The team will be chasing a first gold since Abhinav Bindra claimed the 10 metre air rifle shooting title at Beijing 2008, it is hoped.

"In Beijing 2008, there were few Indians," said Kumar.

"But there were a lot of Indian supporters in London where many Indians live.

"In London, I thought I was playing at home in India and that makes a difference in our performances.

"I urge Indians fans to buy tickets for Rio Olympics in large numbers."
