International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Sir Philip Craven has officially opened a new building at the organisation’s headquarters in Bonn.

The building will become the home of the Agitos Foundation, the development arm of the IPC, as well as staff from IPC sports.

Additionally, the facility in the German city will become home to the anti-doping, medical and scientific and games and events technology departments.

In total, 30 members of IPC staff will be based in the new building, with the organisation employing a total of 85 people.

Sir Philip was joined at the official opening by the Lord Mayor of Bonn, Ashok-Alexander Sridharan, and 12-time Paralympic champion biathlete Verena Bentele, who is now the Commissioner for Matters Relating to Persons with Disabilities of the Federal Government of Germany.

Bernd Neuendorf, the State Secretary of North Rhine-Westphalia, was also present.

“The opening of this new building marks a new beginning,” said Sir Philip.

“The IPC is much bigger now and our influence on making for a more inclusive society around the globe is far greater.

“We now employ 85 people from more than 20 countries and have doubled in size in the last four years alone and the IPC is proud to call Bonn and Germany our base.

“We are always excited to welcome hundreds of guests from around the world each year to our home city.”

The building is the latest addition to the IPC’s headquarters, which was first opened in 1999.
