The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced the entries for the 2016 Cruyff Foundation Wheelchair Tennis Junior Masters with Spain’s Martin de la Puente and Russia’s Viktoriia Lvova, last year’s boys’ and girls’ champions respectively, headlining the 12-strong field.

Eight of the top-ranked junior boys and four of the leading junior girls will contest the event in Tarbes, France from January 28 to 31.

It takes place alongside the last four days of the Les Petits As tournament, which is a premier junior tennis event for players aged between 12 and 14.

Only players born on or after January 1, 1998 are eligible to compete this year.

De la Puente starts 2016 as the world number one in the boys' rankings after Great Britain's Alfie Hewett, winner of the Cruyff Foundation Junior Masters in 2012, 2013 and 2014, turned 18 last month.

Meanwhile, Lvova, who beat Britain’s Luz Esperanza Merry in last year’s final, is the top-ranked girls’ player.

With entries based on the Cruyff Foundation Junior Ranking dated October 26, 2015, seven players in the boys’ event and three players in the girls’ event have qualified directly by virtue of their standing, with one wild card awarded for both events.

The tournament will be preceded by a three-day high performance training camp, aimed at ensuring athletes are prepared for the event.

Completing the boys' field is the United States' Chris Herman and Casey Ratzlaff, South Africa's Alwande Skhosana, Belgium's Jef Vandorpe, Brazil's Fabio Bernardes, Chile's Alexander Cataldo, The Netherlands' Rueben Spaargaren, while Merry, South Africa's Nokwanda Hlongwane and Argentina's Antonella Pralong round off the girls' line-up.

The Johan Cruyff Foundation, named after the legendary Dutch footballer, was founded in 1997 with the aim of giving children the opportunity to play and be active.
