A lack of snow has forced the rearrangement of two International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing Europa Cup events from January to February, it has been announced.

Amid unseasonably warm weather across parts of Europe, the Europa Cup competition in La Molina, Spain, which was due to be held from January 7 to 10 but will now take place from February 8 to 11.

The event will feature both giant slalom and slalom races in the Spanish resort, which played host to the IPC Para-Snowboard World Championships earlier this year.

Just two days after the completion of the La Molina stop on the calendar, Espot in Spain will stage two super combined races on February 13 and 14.

The event was scheduled for January 11 and 12 but has been switched because of insufficient snow.

The most recent Europa Cup competition took place as planned in Pitztal, Austria, on December 14 and 15, with Germany’s Andrea Rothfuss and  Austria’s Markus Salcher both clinching double gold to end the year on a high.

Rothfuss, winner of the slalom title at last year's Paralympic Games in Sochi, reigned supreme in the super combined and the super-G events to continue her dominant season to date.

The German had come into the event having won two slalom standing races at the Europa Cup event in Landgraaf, The Netherlands, in November.

Double Paralympic gold medallist Salcher, meanwhile, also picked up victories in the super combined and super-G at the competition in Pitztal.

Temperatures in both Spanish resorts are unusually high for this time of year and have caused difficulties for skiing events across the continent, with organisers unable to prepare suitable courses.

A number of International Ski Federation World Cup events in both Europe and North America have also had to be cancelled and amended due to the current warm weather.
