A jersey worn by double Olympic gold medallist Kobe Bryant in his final regular season home opener for Los Angeles Lakers has been sold at an auction for $22,020 (£14,769/€20,078)

NBA Auctions and its partner, MeiGray, sold the jersey as part of an ongoing series of auctions featuring jerseys worn on opening night throughout the National Basketball Association.

The three-week long sale for Bryant’s gold and purple Lakers shirt attracted 32 bids.

Bryant wore the jersey during the Lakers’ 112-111 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 28  at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

He played 28 minutes and scored 24 points with an assist, four rebounds and two steals.

The 37-year-old Bryant announced earlier this season that the 2015-2016 campaign would be his last, although he still hopes to compete at next year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where he will be seeking to add to the gold medals he won at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

An 17-time All-Star, Bryant began his NBA career in 1996 as an 18-year-old rookie and has spent his entire career with the Lakers.

This final campaign will be a record 20th season.
