Bordeaux has been announced as the host of the 2017 BMX European Championships ©UEC

Bordeaux has been revealed at the host city for the 2017 European Cycling Union (UEC) BMX Championships.

The announcement follows the signing of an agreement between the UEC and the French Cycling Federation (FFC), as well as representatives of the Stade Bordelais BMX club, who are set to organise the competition.

“We have always believed in BMX, a young and dynamic discipline which fits perfectly with the current spirit of cycling together with the tradition of this sport,” said David Lappartient, UEC President.

“This is why we did not hesitate to award the 2017 edition of the European Championships to Bordeaux, a city which has always had close ties with cycling.

“We know that the way in which the races will be organised and the organising capabilities of the will help of the Stade Bordelais BMX club to make these Championships unforgettable and unique.”

Competition is set to be held on a temporary track which will be constructed in front of Place des Quinconces, one of the largest city squares in Europe.

The UEC believe the venue will be ideal for the cyclists who will be taking part, with fans expected to be attracted to the event due to its city centre location.

It will also conclude a series of BMX initiatives which are planned to be held in Bordeaux ahead of the annual event, including the French National Championships which will take place the week before.

Both competitions are set to be held in early July, although exact dates have yet to be finalised.

The 2016 edition of the BMX European Championships is scheduled to be held in the Italian city of Verona from July 8 to 10.
