The International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) has moved headquarters to a new location at Aylesbury College.

The organisation had been based at the Olympic Village in Guttmann Road, named after Ludwig Guttmann, the German-born British neurologist credited with the creation of the Paralympic Games.

The site is also the home to Stoke Mandeville Stadium and Wheelpower, the national organisation and charity for British wheelchair sport.

IWAS' new headquarters are located two miles away, approximately 51 miles north of London.

The move to the new premises offers a large, modern office space with state of the art facilities and are more cost effective, IWAS chief executive Charmaine Hooper claimed.

It will also help IWAS to build an independent brand identity, opening up opportunities currently unavailable to the organisation, she added.

Hooper also hopes the direct link to almost 4,000 students will broaden the scope for volunteers and mutually beneficial internships, particularly with students on sport or event management courses.

"IWAS would like to thank WheelPower for their support and we look forward to working with Stoke Mandeville Stadium in the future," she said.

"We are excited to open the new office at this vibrant and energetic premises and we are confident the move will allow IWAS to continue its work and to develop and strengthen the organisation."

Tim Keighley, Aylesbury College executive director engagement and business development, is looking forward to IWAS moving in.

“We are delighted to welcome the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation to their new home in Aylesbury College," he said.

"Our partnership will bring benefits to both organisations and I am sure that the inspirational work that IWAS do will help to broaden our students’ horizons."
