Women's semi-final line-up confirmed at UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters

The semi-finalists in the women's competition at the UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters have been decided after the second round of group matches in Mission Viejo, California.

With the six best ranked pairings in the world competing in two groups of three, the last four line-up has been confirmed as two pairs have already slipped to defeats in both their contests.

In pool one, last year's runners-up Louise Hunt of Great Britain and Katharina Kruger of Germany went down 6-2, 6-2 to another team consisting of the same nationalities - Germany's Sabine Ellerbrock and British player Lucy Shuker.

Hunt and Kruger had lost their pool opener to the defending champions, Japan's Yui Kamiji and Britain's Jordanne Whiley, yesterday, meaning they have already exited the tournament.

Ellerbrock and Shuker are now due to meet Kamiji and Whiley tomorrow to decide who tops the pool, with both pairings already through.

It is an identical situation in pool two as Dutch pair Marjolein Buis and Michaela Spaanstra saw off Americans Emmy Kaiser and Kaitlyn Verfuerth 6-4, 6-3 to condemn the US team to a second loss.

Buis and Spaanstra will play compatriots Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot tomorrow, who beat the Americans yesterday, to decide the group winners.

In the men's doubles, which features the top eight pairings in two groups of four, the race for the semi-finals will go down to the wire, with all of the competitors still in contention.

In pool one, Dutch duo Tom Egberink and Maikel Scheffers are the only undefeated pair after a 6-3, 6-0 win over Britain's Alfie Hewett and South Africa's Evans Maripa.

Hewett and Maripa move to one win and one defeat after their shock win over top seeds and reigning champions Joachim Gerard and Stephane Houdet yesterday, with the latter pair recovering today by sending Brits Marc McCarroll and David Phillipson to a second defeat with a 6-2, 6-0 win.

Tomorrow sees Egberink and Scheffers meet Gerard and Houdet, with Hewett and Maripa clashing with McCarroll and Phillipson.

In pool two, last year's runners-up Michael Jeremiasz of France and Gordon Reid of Great Britain have a 100 per cent record after a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Wimbledon champions Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina and Nicolas Peifer of France.

Fernandez and Peifer had beaten Sweden’s London 2012 gold medallists Stefan Olsson and Peter Vikstrom 7-5, 6-2 yesterday, and the Paralympic champions recovered to send Japan’s Shingo Kunieda and Takuya Miki to a second loss with a 6-4, 7-6 victory today.

Tomorrow's games see Jeremiasz and Reid play the Swedish team, with Kunieda and Miki hoping for a first win against Fernandez and Peifer.

Meanwhile, today also saw the first games in the quads competition, which features four pairs in one group.

Nicholas Taylor and David Wagner of the US beat Italians Alberto Corradi and Antonio Raffaele 6-2, 6-1, while Brits Jamie Burdekin and Andy Lapthorne were too strong for Alfredo di Cosmo of Italy and American Greg Hasterok, 7-5, 6-4.
