Ireland’s first-ever male world champion Michael Conlan is one of two International Boxing Association (AIBA) fighters who will be doing their bit for the Movember charity movement throughout next month.

Aimed at raising awareness and funds for men’s health issues, Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during November.

Conlan, winner of the bantamweight gold medal at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Doha earlier this month, is joined by fellow boxer Joe Joyce of Great Britain.

"The Movember campaign promotes awareness for issues that we are all familiar with to some extent, whether it’s through boxing or our personal lives," said Conlan.

"I couldn’t be happier to put my top lip and full support behind it and raise money for some great causes."

Joyce, a super heavyweight bronze medallist in Qatar’s capital, added: "In sport, you are acutely aware of the issues facing other sportsmen and the impact that health issues can have on a career, and AIBA has always been proactive in preventing them.

"Movember has done an incredible job in raising awareness of those issues in a way that people easily can relate to."

AIBA claimed the health of its boxers has always been central to its philosophy, and joining forces with the Movember movement comes on the back of the launch of the #HeadsUp! campaign at their recent World Championships.

Based upon the four pillars of health, education, sport and sustainability, AIBA began the campaign with a focus on training boxers to maintain a heads-up stance to help prevent concussions and cuts.

Since 2003, the Movember Foundation has raised £400 million ($618 million/€562 million) and is the largest men’s health movement in the world.

The boxers' progress throughout Movember can be followed on AIBA’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Men and women can sign up here to grow, give or MOVE for the 30 days of Movember.
